As the coach of two of the clubs junior teams (u12 boys and u14 girls) and a current playing member at the club, its been a frustrating season with the British weather meaning access to our pitches for games and training has ben a bit hit and miss. But all was not lost! With the gym free on a Sunday I have been able to introduce my two teams (and others) to gym based training on days where we haven’t been able to get onto our pitches.
It’s been great seeing the boys and girls really get stuck into the gym sessions, introducing them to basic strength training concepts whilst working on their match fitness and building teamwork through a number of challenges which will all translate to performances on the pitch. This is also going to continue into next season and once we’ve had a break for a few weeks we will start our pre-season with some further sessions.
From one end of the age spectrum to another, a group of our vets (over 35) team has been meeting weekly to run through a team gym session. This has all been done to raise funds for the clubs project to refurbish the existing junior pavilion at Sidford. At present we have raised over £400 and counting. Not only has this benefitted the club with the funds added to the running total, but has been great fun getting together and the gents fitness levels soar (not too bad for a bunch of old guys!)
